The Thursday Night Blues Jam at the Historic Tip Top Cafe is one of Huntsville’s most welcoming and unique weekly music traditions.

This jam is open to all skill levels—from seasoned pros to musicians stepping on stage for the very first time. We do things a little differently than most jams: no signup sheets. Each week there’s a secret password. Walk up to the stage, say the password, and Otis will plug you into the jam.

Backline is provided, so musicians just need to bring themselves and their instrument.

The jam is hosted by Otis Walker, born in Memphis, who cut his teeth in the Shoals and is now one of the busiest musicians in the Huntsville music scene. Every week, some of the area’s best players come out to trade fours with Otis—right alongside newcomers who’ve never played in front of an audience before—creating a truly welcoming, supportive environment.

Musicians regularly drive in from Birmingham, the Shoals, and Middle Tennessee just to be part of the night.

The jam began in the summer of 2024 and found its home at the Historic Tip Top Cafe, continuing a tradition rooted in blues, community, and good vibes.
